Two complete IPC lines for South Tyneside College

Between July and September 2015, I delivered two complete IPC training lines to South Tyneside College in South Shields, UK. The equipment came from SMC International Training and was supplied to the college through TSC.

The project combined the physical training equipment with custom local operator interfaces and TSC SCADA. I was responsible for the entire delivery: costing, configuration, custom HMI programming, logistics, delivery, installation, training and long-term support.

Custom HMIs for direct operation

I programmed the Omron HMIs in CX-Designer and connected them to the Omron CJ1M PLCs controlling the equipment. The aim was to improve end-user engagement and give learners a direct way to operate the system without needing the full SCADA running.

The touchscreen interface made local operation available alongside the PC-based supervisory system. The installation photographs show the TSC-branded HMI overview mounted beside the training equipment.

TSC SCADA and OPC integration

TSC SCADA was also provided for each unit, connected through Omron CX-Server OPC v2.1. This gave the college both local HMI operation and the supplied SCADA environment for its training work.

Delivery, installation and continued support

My responsibility covered the commercial and practical work needed to get the systems into teaching use, from costing and arranging the equipment supply to configuring the controls and coordinating delivery logistics. I installed the systems at the college, provided customer training and took responsibility for long-term support after the initial delivery period.

The SMC IPC product overview provides further context on the training hardware and my wider installation and support work.
