Engineering / Behind the experience
Engineering foundations.
My work connects visual environments with the process models, control interfaces and software that make the complete system behave coherently.
Chemical Engineering fundamentals
My BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University, with a Diploma in Industrial Studies, provided the foundation for my work in process simulation. The degree covered thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, process balances, reaction engineering and process control, alongside plant design, safety and economics.
I applied these principles through microfluidics research, a team bioethanol plant design and an individual batch-fermenter design, connecting mathematical analysis with experiments, equipment sizing and operating requirements. Explore my degree subjects and projects.
Dynamic process simulation
My early work centred on first-principles dynamic modelling: thermodynamics, fluid behaviour, hydraulic networks and the transient response of industrial equipment. Projects included compressor-station and gas-storage studies, compressor surge and methanol recovery by binary distillation.
Developing hydraulic capability in a C-based simulation platform connected Chemical Engineering calculations to the practical constraints of an industrial software product.
Industrial controls & integration
Operator training brings simulated plant behaviour together with PLC, SCADA, DCS and OPC interfaces. My experience includes process instrumentation, control-system integration, testing, installation, commissioning and customer training.
As Lead Engineer for the TPS200 training system, I worked across equipment selection, PLC programming, SCADA and emergency-shutdown testing. The Halliburton project also connected simulation with a real control-system context.
Software & product engineering
My responsibilities developed from simulation software into immersive products and wider engineering software management. That includes solution architecture, desktop deployment and installer engineering, web and cloud learning platforms, and the user experience around industrial training.
Across these areas, my focus is on clear requirements, workable interfaces and acceptance testing that relates to the operational need.
Detailed engineering project studies will be added as this portfolio grows. View my CV for the wider career context or explore the 3D / XR portfolio.
