From process behaviour to a working simulator

My Centrica work began with a methanol–water distillation simulation at Easington, delivered during my time as a Simulation Engineer. The methanol-recovery Operator Training Simulator required thermodynamic and fluid-dynamic modelling of binary distillation, connecting the behaviour of the process to the operator’s controls.

I implemented the complete project and associated updates between August 2012 and November 2013. This included C coding for the emulation and adapting chemical-engineering thermodynamic code so that the process model behaved as required.

Testing and delivery

I built the simulator, tested it against operating procedures and delivered it to Centrica Storage shift teams.
