Taking the portable system into training use
In September 2018, TSC took its newly built portable training system to Oman as a trial for BP operator training at the newly built TPO Petrofac training centre.
I was one of two trainers from TSC and spent three weeks training new oil and gas recruits. The visit was successful and followed the portable system’s design and build at TSC, which I had led with Harry Wright.
A complete training setup in flight cases
BP’s original request had been to make immersive training portable. The system combined a triple-screen 3D field environment with separate control-room operator and instructor stations, carried in protective cases and connected through its own local network.
The Oman trial put that portable approach into a training-centre setting. It is recorded here as a separate training delivery from the March–July 2018 hardware design and build.
Subsequent delivery
After the Oman visit, the portable system was eventually delivered to BP in Baku, carrying the Siemens COMOS Walkinside proof-of-concept collaboration project. That work has a separate Baku delivery project page.
